Obasanjo paid us N0.5m each to impeach Na’Abba - Jagaba alleges

The chairman of the House of Representatives committee on interior, Jagaba Adams Jagaba, has alleged that the former president Olusegun Obasanjo-led executive paid members of the House N500,000 each to remove a former speaker, Ghali Umar Na’Abba from seat.

Jagaba disclosed this on Wednesday, April 11, in his testimony before an FCT High Court in Lugbe at the ongoing trial of Honourable Farouk Lawan who was accused of bribery during the fuel subsidy scandal, Daily Trust reports.

Responding to questions from Lawan’s counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Jagaba informed the court that the money was brought by the executive arm of government to bribe members of the National Assembly and that it was specifically to impeach Na’Abba.

Jagaba remarked that he reported the matter to the House at a plenary session and displayed the money.

He stated: "I displayed N4.5m on the floor of the house because every member was involved and the matter was reported. I believed it was a bribe because I saw trucks coming to distribute the money. It was N500,000 per person. It was nine members that tendered their money as exhibit.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Na’Abba in a recent interview talked about his regret at not impeaching the former president Olusegun Obasanjo when he had the chance.

Na’Abba spoke about his trials and regrets during his time as the speaker, and what it meant to be at the forefront of Nigerian politics.
