Liverpool Jurgen Klopp admitted that he thought the news of Roma’s win over Barcelona in the Champions League last night was a joke.

When Klopp was told the news of Barca's exit after Liverpool’s 2-1 win at the Etihad the German was in disbelief.

“I found out when I walked up the stairs to this press conference, and somebody told me.

“I really thought that it was a joke. Not that I don't respect Roma, absolutely the opposite, they are a fantastic team. They lost Mo Salah but are in the semis, that's quite a big thing.

“I didn't expect it (Barcelona losing) before the game, but I knew it was possible.

“This competition is quite fair. I really think a normal final could have been Man City against Barcelona, and now they are both out.

“But there will still be two other really strong teams in, plus Roma and us. We will see what happens, but that's not a thing I have to think about tonight,” he said.

While the Reds were showing Manchester City the exit from Europe's elite competition the Italian side were playing their own part in ensuring qualification into the last four.

Barcelona were big favourites to go through after a taking commanding 4-1 first-leg lead at Nou Camp last Tuesday.

However Roma spectacularly stunned the five-time European Cup winners with three unreplied goals with a 4-4 aggregate scoreline at the Stadio Olimpico to go through on away goals.

Coach Eusebio Di Francesco revealed after the match he would love his side to go all the way into the finals.
