- The Igbos have been urged to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid in 2019
- A second term will pave way for an Igbo man to become president, the SGF Boss Mustapha said
- According to him, in the game of politics, there are no permanent enemies or friends
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has urged the Igbos to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid as its the shortest and surest way for an Igbo man to become president, The Cable reports.
Legit.ng gathered that Mustapha noted this while speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, April 10, as he received a delegation of the Ebonyi state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that visited him.
“Preach it to the other south-east states that the shortest way to Igbo presidency is to support Buhari in 2019," Mustapha said.

He added: “This is the time to open your arms and your doors to even those that are perceived as enemies, you must have a large heart to receive them.
“That is why Mr President himself specifically directed the party to consider the provisions of waiver as provided for in our constitution. Why is he saying that? It is because in this game there are no permanent enemies or friends.
“The dynamics of politics can change and people that you perceive today are not with you, will be with you tomorrow. So, your ability to receive them with grace will determine whether they will feel welcome or isolated.”
The SGF said with Buhari’s declaration, the APC needs to open its doors to others knocking.
According to an earlier report by Legit.ng, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, April 9, in Abuja declared his intention to seek re-election in 2019. Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s senior special assistant on media and Publicity confirmed this development in a statement in Abuja on Monday.
He said that the president made the declaration at a closed-door meeting of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.
The presidential aide quoted President Buhari as saying that he was responding to the clamour by Nigerians to re-contest in 2019, adding that he wanted to give the NEC, the honour of notifying them first.
