The Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) has debunked reports on social media on the purported resignation of retired Lieutenant General TY Danjuma as its chairman.
Alkasim Abdulkadir, the head of media and communications, PCNI made this known in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, April 10, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Abdulkadir remarked: “The attention of the Presidential Committee on The North East Initiative has been drawn to online reports and social media posts on the purported resignation of the Chairman of the PCNI.
“This statement hereby debunks the reports and states that retired Lieutenant General TY Danjuma remains the Chairman of the PCNI.‘’
He appealed to news organisations, journalists and social media users to always verify the source of stories before publishing.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Senate had on Wednesday, March 28, deliberated on the statement made by Theophilus Danjuma on the insecurity in the country.
The former chief of army staff had, at the convocation of Taraba State University on Saturday, March 24, urged Nigerians to resort to self-defence in the face of unending killings across the country.
