Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has given the credit to Michael Carrick following his performance against Manchester City at the Etihad.

The France international scored in quick succession to turnaround Manchester United's 2-0 deficit at the weekend.

The 24-year-old's goals ultimately inspired United to victory as Chris Smalling scored the winner 11 minutes later to seal victory.

The Red Devils' club record signing went a long way to justify his price tag after heavy criticisms in recent months.

Pogba revealed the role Carrick played a big role when he scored his brace rather than taking the praise for himself.

"I give the credit to Michael Carrick, because after the game every game he shows me the video and says to make those runs.

"He's someone who's helped me a lot, every time after training he says: 'Come, look at this run, you can kill because nobody can stop you'," Pogba told Sky Sports after the game.

Pogba also admitted he would not have been able to score his goals had he been deployed in holding midfield position.

Much has been debated of the role the ex-Juventus star plays in, with it widely known that he prefers playing in a midfield three.

And Pogba added as much after Saturday's clash: "It's hard to make this run in a two, because you have to stay and you have to control.

"When we have three players, I know Matic will stay behind, and you have more freedom to go in front."

Pogba and Jose Mourinho have been involved in a row in recent weeks which blew open rumours about the midfielder's intention to leave Old Trafford.

Mourinho's side claimed the bragging rights after wrestling from two-goals down to claim a 3-2 victory as City will have to wait for another match-day to be crowned champions.

The Red Devils will play against Tottenham in the semi finals of the FA Cup in two weeks for a chance to win a silverware this season.
