- The pictures is used a sign of inspiration to academy players
- United recorded a 3-2 win over rivals City at the Etihad
Manchester United put the picture of Lionel Messi cleaning his boots in their academy dressing room at Carrington.
According to The Times, the photograph pinned to the dressing room is intended to remind the players that 'even the biggest player in the world still takes care of the small, dirty jobs - he stays humble'.
Reports also have it that the image inspires United's midfielder Scott McTominay who still parks his car at the front of Carrington as opposed to round the back in the first team car park.
The 21-year-old Scotland international has enjoyed a breakthrough season, making 20 appearances this term under Jose Mourinho.
On McTominay, Michael Carrick recently told Manchester United's official website: "You can see that he steps up to every challenge that has been set in every environment. He is an athlete.
"He is strong, quick and very good on the ball. He has got all of the attributes to have a really good career.
"I know he will take my place some day and that is not something I would be afraid of, or try to put him off, because it is important to help the future and Scott is definitely that. It is my responsibility to do all I can to help him."
United stunned city rivals Manchester City at the Etihad with a 3-2 scoreline after coming from two goals down to score three second half goals.
The Old Trafford outfit will play Tottenham in the FA Cup semi finals as they will looking to win a silverware this season.
