Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera reportedly spat on Manchester City crest as the Reds trailed City 2-0 at half time.
A video footage appeared the Spain international spat on the large City crest outside the tunnel as players went into the dressing rooming during the half time break.
Manchester United announced the midfielder's act was not intentional with suggestions claiming the Spain star's act was deliberate.
A United spokesperson said: "Ander has seen the footage of the incident and is mortified at any suggestion that his actions were deliberate.
"It was entirely accidental and there was no intent whatsoever."
