John Ogbonna rated is the best professional wrestler in the world

- Ogbonna Emmanuel is world number one in the 70kg pro wrestling

- The Nigerian became champion in the tournament held in Port Harcourt

- Emmanuel successfully defended his African title for the second consecutive year

Nigeria's John Ogbonna Emmanuel has been rated number one 70kg freestyle wrestler by the United World Wrestling (UWW).

At the recently concluded African Wrestling Championships held in Port-Harcourt, Emmanuel retained his status as champion.

The Nigerian wrestler is followed by Ikhtiyor Navruzov of Uzbekistan, and Egypt’s Amr Reda Ramadan Hussen.

Last year Emmanuel won gold at the National Championships in Bayelsa state in March and successfully defended his title during in Port Harcourt

He became African Champion by defeating Maher GHANMI of Tunisia by 5-2 in the final of the 70kg category at the African Wrestling Championship in Morocco in August 2017.

Another Nigerian wrestler Agiomor Ekerekeme is rated third in the world behind Iranian wrestlers Rashid Kurbanov and Ezzetollah Akabarizarinkolaei who occupy the first and second positions respectively.

Ekerekeme announced himself to the world stage as he won his first African title at the continental championships in the 79kg category.

Other Nigerian wrestlers on the world ranking are Robert Daufa who is rated 7th in the World in the 92kg category, while Soso Tamara is 9th in the 97kg category, and Welson Ebikewenimo is 10th in the World in the 57kg category.
