Melaye raises alarm over alleged importation of illegal security gadgets by Kogi governor

Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district in the National Assembly, has accused Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state of importing security gadgets without approval from the National Security Adviser (NSA), as demanded by the law.

Melaye, who made the accusation at the Senate’s plenary on Thursday, March 8, said he had enough proof to show that the items were imported unknowing to the NSA, Vanguard reports.

He explained that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), intercepted the items which were in the custody of Nigeria Aviation Handling Company of Nigeria (NAHCO).

The senator urged the Senate to order the James Manager led-ad-hoc committee to take the issue seriously and to ensure that the gadgets were still with the NAHCO.

The Senate had earlier organised a committee headed by Senator James Manager of Delta People's Democratic Party (PDP) to carry out a thorough investigation of attacks during empowerment programme set up by Senator Ahmed Ogembe, in Okene, Kogi state recently.

Melaye stated: “Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, in view of this, I urge the Committee led by a ranking Senator, James Manager to add this assignment. I also urge them to move to NAHCO this afternoon to ensure that those items are still in their custody.”

Ike Ekweremadu, the deputy Senate president who presided over the plenary, directed the ad-hoc committee to investigate the claim and submit its report without hesitation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi) had called out his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the huge amount of money it had borrowed in three years of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Legit.ng gathers that he made the statement during plenary on Wednesday, March 7, as he called a Point-of-Order on the Peace Corps bill currently before the president for assent.
