- The senator and the rest were suspended over alleged anti-party activities

- Senator Hunkuyi was accused of being a part of an APC faction that opened another party office in the state

There is a fresh crisis as the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state, on Friday, February 16, suspended the senator representing Kaduna north, Suleiman Hunkuyi, and 27 other party members over alleged anti-party activities.

According to the allegations brought against Hunkuyi, he was part of a parallel APC that opened another office of the party in the state, Punch reports.

Legit.ng gathered that the same Hunkuyi faction also queried Governor Nasir el-Rufai and suspended three of his aides.

The announcement suspending Hunkuyi was made at an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party, which held at its state headquarters.

The acting secretary of the APC, Yahaya Baba-Pate, who spoke to journalists shortly after the meeting, also said 27 other members of the party were suspended for dragging the party before the court.

Baba-Pate added that the SEC also agreed on a timetable for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The meeting was almost disrupted following an attack by hoodlums on a member of the state House of Assembly, Yusuf Zailani, while leaving the venue of the meeting.

The police were, however, reportedly on ground and dispersed the rampaging thugs with gunshots, ensuring that the meeting did not end in chaos.

Since the party assumed office in the state in May 2015, it has been allegedly enmeshed in crisis, leading to the formation of three factions of the party in the state.

The factions include the ‘Restoration APC,’ led by Alhaji Tijjani Ramallan and Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi; the ‘APC Akida,’ led by Senator Shehu Sani and the chief of staff to the Senate president, Dr Hakeem Ahmed; and the ‘APC Government House,’ led by the governor and his deputy.

Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state, on Thursday, February 15, declared that his government was ready to start sending those he called political traders into retirement and that it would not be swayed by their antics ahead of 2019 polls.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan, El-Rufai said politicians like Hunkuyi were drowning and that nobody needs to pay attention to them any longer.
