Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state on Tuesday, February 13, visited Ipao-Ekiti to condole with the family of a farmer, Tunde Olayemi, who was killed on Sunday, February 11 by suspected herdsmen, NAN reports.
Legit.ng gathered that at a meeting with the leaders of the community, Fayose appealed to the people of Ipao to ensure that there were no reprisal killings.
He said: ”I appeal to you to ensure you live peacefully with the Fulani herdsmen in your community. We want a peaceful situation that would not allow any reprisal.
“We will investigate and get to the root cause of this sad development, particularly why this community has become a flashpoint so that we can find a lasting solution to it."
The governor also promised to set up a five-man committee that would investigate the cause of the killings in the town.
It was reported that the governor promised to compensate the affected victim’s family as well the herdsmen whose cows were killed
He also said there would be an amendment to the anti-grazing law to ensure that whoever killed a cow unlawfully would be made to face the wrath of the law.
Fayose also assured residents of the state of safety, saying the government would not relent in working with security agents to check breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state paid a condolence visit to Governor Samuel Ortom and the people of Benue state over the clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
Fayose, who is chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, was received by Samuel Ortom, on Thursday, February 8.
During his visit, the Ekiti state governor offered prayers at the graveside of the 73 persons killed in January by suspected herdsmen.
