Soyinka speaks on insecurity, claims President Buhari is in a trance

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has spoken out about the government of Muhammadu Buhari and concluded that the president is currently under a trance.

Soyinka, reportedly expressed his frustration about the government at a press briefing where he spoke on the increasing agitation across the country following attacks by suspected armed herdsmen on farming communities.

He lamented what he described as “the unforced errors of the Buhari administration."

Asked what he would tell Buhari if he met him, Soyinka said: “I would say: Mr President, I think you are under a trance,

“The sooner he gets out of it the better. So many unforced errors are going on."

Premium Times reports that one of the issues raised by Soyinka was the president’s recall of the executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, after he was suspended for alleged graft by Isaac Adewole, the health minister, as a recent example of the unforced errors that has characterised the government.

The Punch also reported that when he was asked the form of trance the president was in, Soyinka said: “I don’t know. So many unforced errors. Take for instance the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, reinstated by the President.

“What is that about? What is going on?”

Legit.ng earlier reported that former military president Ibrahim Babangida recently said it is time for Nigeria to reinvent the will and tap into the resourcefulness of the younger generation.

He called on Nigerians to cooperate with President Muhammadu Buhari to complete his tenure and collectively work towards preparing the way for new generation leaders to assume the mantle of leadership of the country.

This was contained in a special press statement released on Sunday, February 4, by Kassim Afegbua, his spokesman.
