JAMB, Nigerians react to mysterious disappearance of N36m from vault

The mysterious disappearance of N36million cash from the vaults of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is generating lots of reactions from Nigerians across the country.

The reactions followed a report that an official in JAMB's finance department had claimed that a mysterious snake 'spiritually' entered into the vault to take away the money.

Although the matter is a serious case of corruption and criminality, Nigerians have been seeing the funny side of it.

The social media is currently awash with different hilarious reactions to the development.

Another noted that more animals will soon join the trade.

Another noted that with this development, the president might have to turn anti-corruption searchlight on even animals.

HC Anthony Eshemokhai, who wrote in to Legit.ng from Lagos wondered how Nigeria's professionally trained anti-corruption experts will interpret and tackle this development.

He wrote in part: "I can only laugh at our anti corruption apparatus because right now, they are totally confused. They were only trained on how to apprehend humans who steals and charge them to courts. They have no foundation to prosecute snakes. How will they navigate this great debacle?"

But the EFCC already has a reply handy for Anthony as it tweeted on Sunday, February 11.

The height of it was a user, who tweeted:

On its part, JAMB has reacted to the development. JAMB's head of media and public relations Dr. Fabian Benjamin confirmed both the missing funds and claims by the major suspect that a snake swallowed it.

According to a New Telegraph report on Sunday, Benjamin explained that money was discovered missing after the new registrar of the examination body Prof. Is-haq Oloyede ordered a comprehensive audit of the accounts of all departments, units and state offices across the country.

He said: “There is nothing new about the development. It is just one of those cases discovered by the new leadership of JAMB under Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, and those are involved have already been placed on interdiction pending the determination of their matter.

“So the revelation is a result of the new regime of transparency and accountability being instituted in JAMB. We can assure the Nigerian public that the leadership of Oloyede would leave no stone unturned to reposition the Board for the good of the nation.”
