Nigeria needs new brains and new spirit - Bishop attacks politicians

- Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuemeka of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, presiding over the funeral mass of late Alex Ekwueme, says Nigerian politicians above 65 years should retire from office

- The bishop says Nigerian youths should be given the chance to take over the leadership of the country

- He states that old politicians should be advisers and consultants to the new breed of leaders

Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuemeka of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu unleashed some criticisms on Nigerian politicians during the funeral mass for late former vice-president and elder statesman Alex Ekwueme.

In his message at the mass, the bishop said: "We need people who are new in brain, not expired and analogue brain, that is the finality. All those who are 70 years should retire", Vanguard reports.

In his opinion, Chukwuemeka believes that the age limit for any Nigerian president in service should be 65 years of age. He said: "Anybody above 65 years should not be president of Nigeria. let them become consultants and advisers."

The bishop further stated that it is time for the youths of the country to be given the chance to take up the mantle of leadership. He noted: "The people who are really hot in brain, technocrats, are waiting to become leaders of Nigeria as well. Nigeria needs a new brain and a new spirit."

Meanwhile, reported that some events occurred before the late Ekwueme became the vice president of the country during the administration of Shehu Shagari in 1979.

The National Party of Nigeria at the helms of affairs in 1979 to 1983, was formed on September 20, 1978, at a hall at the Satellite Town in Lagos. The party would later appoint its officers. The party made Alhaji Aliyu Makama Bida, the acting chairman and patron of NPN.
