We are confident that court's judgment on Fayose’s case cannot stand - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said that the ruling by a Federal High Court sitting in Ekiti on the matter against Governor Ayodele Fayose cannot stand.
The commission said it will appeal against Tuesday, January 30, ruling by the court.
In a statement released by the EFCC's spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, the anti-graft agency said it is set to prove that it has the powers to investigate state finances.

Uwujaren said the ruling by the court cannot stand the test of time.
Responding to the court ruling, he said: “The commission has applied for a certified true copy of the ruling of the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti.
“We will study it and avail ourselves of the right of appeal. The EFCC is confident that the judgment cannot stand."

Legit.ng earlier reported that the EFCC had been restrained by the Federal High Court from investigating the finances of the Ekiti state government.
The court sitting in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, January 30, held that the anti-graft agency lacked the powers to investigate the finances of a state, adding that in federalism, the federal government is not an overseer or supervisor regarding finances of a state.

The verdict by the court was shared by Governor Ayo Fayose on Twitter.
Fayose said the EFCC was also restrained from arresting or investigating any official of the Ekiti state government.
