- Olisa Agbakoba says the Third Force will form a new coalition to take over power from the current government

The chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof Itse Sagay, has reportedly described as an insult the letter written to President Muhammadu Buhari by former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

In the letter, Obasanjo asked Buhari to jettison the idea of seeking re-election because he had failed the country in many fronts.

The Nation reports that Sagay said it was disrespecting for Obasanjo, who vigorously pursued a third term in office, to write such a letter.

“I saw Obasanjo’s comments and I could not believe my eyes, that a man who tried to get a third term is discouraging someone else from getting a second term. It doesn’t make sense.

“I think Obasanjo should try and respect other people. He has achieved a lot. He is a great man and I respect him. But he should learn to respect other people and think of them as being, at least, as good as himself.

“I think it is insulting for a man who wanted third term to tell somebody else not to want second term. It is most inappropriate, and for a former head of state to say so is most improper," he said.

In his own reaction, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and leader of the National Intervention Movement (NIM) Dr Olisa Agbakoba, said Obasanjo’s suggestion to Buhari was very great.

He said: “It (Obasanjo’s call) is a great idea as Buhari hasn’t anything left to offer. We at the Third Force will build a new coalition to take power.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigeria's former president Olsegun Obasanjo in a blistering letter asked the President Buhari not to re-contest in 2019. Obasanjo advised Buhari that he has not fulfilled his electoral promise and therefore has no moral right to seek re-election.

The letter is however, generating heat in the polity with some Nigerians hailing Obasanjo for calling the attention of the All Progressives Congress to its responsibility.
