Ghanaians on social media have been sent into a frenzy after the photo of a toddler with blue-coloured eyes went viral.
The said two-year-old girl is pictured with her eyes all blue, contrary to the normal eye colour known in this part of the world.
The girl’s bluish eyes are believed to have stemmed from a rare condition called Waardenberg Syndrome (WS).
The photo of her strange eyes have since gone viral, with Ghanaian social media users totally surprised by the bluish nature of her eyes.
Whiles some have attributed it to witchcraft, others also believed a curse is behind it.
Studies say Wardenburg Syndromes (WS), is a deficiency that can be inherited from parents.
It goes on to suggest that this sort of deficiency is a very rare and happens once in every 42,000 births.
A philanthropist, Afi Antonio, who first discovered the girl said she often attracts attention whenever she steps out due to her blue eyes.
Afi wrote on her condition saying;"Ghanaians really don't like reading
"Please can some people at least read what I wrote about Waardenberg syndrome before passing funny comments?
"Waardenburg syndrome is a group of genetic condition that can cause hearing loss and changes in coloring (pigmentation) of the hair, skin and eyes.
"Aside creating awareness of the condition, I'm hoping to help the family raise money for Chogtaa's Surgery to enable her hear.
"She can see very well, only issue is her hearing which can be worked on in the US or SA and very expensive. Interested persons who can help can private message me.
"And for those privately messaging me asking me if her parents gave me permission to post about her, did u even read my post because if you did you will realize I referred to stories her mum told me and then again if I didn't have permission from them, how did I get her pictures?
As for those who are saying I want to use the girl to make money for myself, God forgive you all.
That said, if any organization can help us raise funds for her surgery kindly let me know.
A big thank you to all who shared the post."
“She attracts a lot of attention for both negative and positive reasons but the negative outweighs the positives. Some kids call her a doll because of her eyes and she would normally shy away due to the attention,” Afi said.
She, therefore, appealed to the general public to help her raise funds in order to secure treatment for the sick girl.
