- One man whose name comes up whenever there is a conversation around the election is Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso
- Supporters of the former governor of Kano state are already mobilising to campaign for him ahead of 2019
Former Kano state governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has commenced mobilisation and sensitisation of his supporters across Imo state head of the 2019 presidential election.
Kwankwaso, 61, a former minister of defence under the Obasanjo administration, is reputed to be one of Nigeria's influential politicians in recent times.
His political support structure cuts across the 27 council areas of Imo state and operates under the aegis of the Kwankwasiya Movement. This is also replicated in all states of the federation.
In a sensitisation meeting held in Owerri, the Imo state capital, scores of supporters in the movement donning their trademark red cap reaffirmed their loyalty and commitment to the group.
Addressing members of the movement, the convener of the meeting and governorship hopeful, Benneth Ezeji, advised the supporters to keep their eyes on the ball and never lose focus of the ideals and fundamentals that drive the Kwankwasiya movement.
His words: “Our leader, Senator Kwankwaso has been consistent in his political ideology and in his principle of integrity. And I wish to convey his goodwill to every member of his political family here gathered while stressing that in leadership, credibility is everything. And that is the selling point of our leader.
“There is no time to waste and we cannot afford to lose any ground to anybody or group. It is my hope that you will take our message of hope down to the grassroots where most of you operate."
Also at the meeting was the southeast coordinator of the group, Prince Matthew Onwukwe.
Legit.ng earlier reported that plans had allegedly been concluded by former Kano state governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso, and his supporters to either move over to the Peoples Democratic Party or Peoples Redemption Party.
The report quoted a source within the Kwankwasiyya as saying the politician and his loyalists are thinking of leaving the ruling All Progressive Congress.
