Motorists defy harmattan; sleep on queues to purchase fuel in Katsina

- As the fuel scarcity continues, motorists in Katsina state have defied the harsh harmattan weather and are sleeping on queues at filling stations, just to purchase the product

- Investigations showed that only 10 filling stations out of 50 were selling fuel in the state capital

- However, it was also discovered that 5 litres of fuel is now being sold for N1,300, after being sold for N1,500 last week

Motorists in Katsina have defied the severe cold condition to sleep in their vehicles overnight to get petrol to buy at filling stations.

According to NAN, the long-suffering motorists have decided to sleep in fuel stations in order to purchase the scarce commodity.

Legit.ng gathers that the fuel scarcity is biting harder in Katsina, and this has compelled motorists to join long queues for fuel.

Out of over 50 filling stations in the state capital and environs, only 10 filling stations were selling petrol.

Military personnel were seen at the various filling stations controlling motorists and irate youths from disrupting the sales.

However, investigations also revealed that five-litre petrol that was sold for N1,500 last week, is now being sold at N1,300.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that through the Department of Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian federal government sealed over 62 petrol stations across the country.

The petrol stations were sealed due to varying acts of malpractices, including selling petrol far above the N145 official pump price.

The head of operations, DPR, Kwara state, Oyedele Ibitayo, said the agency had sealed no fewer than 10 petrol stations in the state for varying acts of malpractices and infractions since the fuel crisis started.
