The All Progressives Congress (APC) national vice chairman (South South), Hilliard Eta, has dismissed opposition claims that President Muhammadu Buhari’s January 1st nationwide address is an indication that the restructuring debate is over.

Eta in an interview with The Punch in Abuja, on Tuesday, January 2, explained that contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the president’s speech was unambiguous because he made it clear that no system was ever perfect and that we should keep working at it.

“The President in his speech agreed with restructuring when he said no system is ever prefect we should keep on working at it that is restructuring.

“That is why our party, the APC in reaction to Mr. President’s speech said, Mr. President never said he was against restructuring, you also reported this in today’s (Tuesday’s) The PUNCH.

“The conversation about restructuring is continuous the speech by the President has not brought it to an end. Nigerians must continue to converse, we must continue to talk, Americans are still talking 240 something odd years after, they are still talking," he said.

He reiterated that because of the multiplicity of opinions about the meaning of restructuring, the APC in its wisdom decided to set up the Governor Nasir El-Rufai Committee on True Federalism to come up with the party’s position on the subject.

The party leader said: “It is on this premise that our party set up the Governor (Nasir) El-Rufai committee to collate all these views from across the country and come out with a clear definition of what the position of the APC as a political party is on the issue.

“The assignment given to the committee is still valid and as you are aware, they are still working they will submit their report very soon."

In a previous report by Legit.ng, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state called on Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress, (APC) committee on restructuring.

Fayose in a statement by his chief press secretary, Idowu Adelusi said: “It is dead on arrival and a ruse. It is a blatant attempt to draw the wool over the eyes of Nigerians.”
