Police move against Senator Kwankwaso’s associate

- Some police officer on Monday, December 28, made an attempt to arrest Aminu Abdulsalam, a political associate of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso

- The officers were at the residence of Abdulsalam with two vehicles

- The police said the attempt to arrest Abdulsalam was in connection with an interview he granted a radio station

Some operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, December 27, made an attempt to arrest Aminu Abdulsalam, a political associate of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Daily Trust reports that some armed police officers were at the residence of Abdulsalam at No 5 Jamo road in Kano to arrest him.

Reacting to the arrest attempt by the police officer, Abdulsalam said the security operatives who were at his residence with two vehicles were stopped by Honourable Ali Gini who requested reasons for his arrest.

He said: "They came with two vehicles but they were not able to arrest me following intervention of Honorable Ali Madalin Gini, who demanded reasons for my arrest. They later went to the command with Madakin Gini.

"I am still waiting for Madalin Gini to come back, but the attempted arrest may be political. You know we are not on the same page with the incumbent governor politically, so they will use whatever means available to them to descend on us."

Legit.ng also gathered that since the attempt to arrest Kwankwaso's associate has been flooded, hundreds of Kwankwasiyya supporters have been loitering around to prevent further attempt by the police on Abdulsalam.

Confirming the arrest attempt, the Kano police command spokesperson, Magaji Musa Majiya, said the arrest was in connection with an interview Abdulsalam granted a private radio stations in the state.

He said Abdulsalam had accused the Kano state commissioner of police Rabi’u Yusuf and the command of working with the state government to indict members of the Kwankwasiyya group.

Majiya said: "Comrade Abdulsalam in the interview had accused the state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Rabi’u Yusuf and the Kano state police command of conniving with Kano state government to indict members of Kwankwasiyya group. He alleged that police and Kano state government had arranged to buy red caps and hire some youths during a 2-day presidential visit to embarrass President Muhammadu Buhari so that Kwankwasiyya group would be blamed for the action.

“Abdulsalam’s statement is an attack on the personality of CP Yusuf and the entire Nigerian Police particularly Kano state command and the command will not fold its arms watching people attacking it. Honorable Aliyu Madakin Gini has promised to produce Comrade Abdulsalam to us and we will charge him to court for this."

Legit.ng earlier reported that the presidency warned against allegations that President Muhammadu Buhari is behind the removal of the Kano state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The spokesperson to the president, Garba Shehu, in a statement said the accusation was false.

Shehu also warned against dragging the name of the president into the removal of the APC chairman in Kano state.
