Breaking: Osun workers declare strike over half salary

Osun state workers have declared their intention to begin an indefinite strike over non payments of their full salaries and arrears despite the receipt of the third tranche of N6.3 billion Paris Club loan refund.

The Osun state Joint Public Service Negotiating Council disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, December 22 following an emergency meeting of labour leaders on Thursday, December 21.

The workers accused the state government of refusing to revert to paying them full salary.

The notice of strike was signed by the Chairman JPSNC, Bayo Adejumo; Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Tunde Adekomi and the Trade Union Congress Chairman, Bowale Adekola and leaders of various affiliate unions, Punch reports.

The notice read in part: “Consequent upon the refusal of the government of Osun state to accede to the demands of the workers and pensioners as contained in our letter of Tuesday, December 5, 2017, the workers of Osun state will be proceeding on an indefinite strike by 27th December , 2017.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Ogbeni Aregbesola, the Osun state governor challenged the claim that the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun state is currently in disarray over who will succeed him in 2018.

He said APC is strongly rooted in the grassroots across in the state and there is no disagreement among the party members. Reports have it that Aregbesola said there is no any form of disaffection among the members and loyalists of the party.
