Ogoni youths protest against NNPC

Hundred of youths of Ogoni nationality in Rivers state came out to protest at the entrance gate of the Nigerian National Petroleum Coorporation (NNPC), in Port Harcourt.
The group under the aegis of Ken Saro-Wiwa Associates (KSA) stormed the premises of the NNPC in the early hours of Wednesday, December 20, to stage a peaceful protest.

They were there to demand an immediate halt on the planned resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland.
Vanguard reports that the group coordinator, Chief Gani Topba, said the people came out in their numbers to show total rejection of the move.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Nigeria, Netherlands and the UK have been asked by Amnesty International to launch investigations into the role of international oil giant, Shell, in what they describe as the horrific crimes committed by the Nigerian military in Ogoniland in the 1990s.
A statement by the organization’s media manager, Isa Sanusi, disclosed that thousands of pages of internal company documents and witness statements have been reviewed by the organization to prove their point.
