Only President Buhari can hand over to Igbos in 2019 - Arewa

- The Arewa Consultative Forum urged Igbos to vote for Buhari in 2019

- It said only the president can hand over power to them in 2019

- The Ohaneze Ndigbo said it would support a candidate that has interest of Igbos

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is the best person to hand over power to Igbos in 2019 and urged them to support him in 2019.

Mr. Anthony Sani who is the secretary-general of the group spoke with The Sun where he said the Ohaneze may have endorsed President Buhari for 2019.

The socio-political Igbo group had said that it would only support any candidate that has the interest of the Igbos.

Sani in his reaction said President Buhari has only one term to spend in office and would hand over to an Igbo person.

He said all other presidential candidate would want to spend two terms in office and that Buhari is the best man for the Igbos.

Sani said: “There is nothing exotic or quixotic about what the leadership of Ohanaeze has said. This is because in politics only interest is permanent. If being president is the major interest of the Igbo, they are entitled to pursue it democratically.

“What Ohanaeze now means is tacit endorsement of President Buhari who is about the only candidate with only one tenure to go from 2019. Any other candidate would hope to do two tenures.

“I am therefore happy to note that Ohanaeze has decided to be part of the national democracy through which group and individual interests can find expression.” had reported that that John Nwodo stated that in 2019, the group would advise Igbos to vote for a candidate of the political party that has the best programmes for Ndigbo, even though Ohanaeze was a non-political association.

He stated: “Ohanaeze is a non-political organization and the membership of Ohanaeze cuts across political lines.

“All Igbo are members of Ohanaeze from their town unions and they all exist in all the political parties, so I cannot be an agent of any political party.

“What is important to Ohanaeze is that before the election, all the political parties must sell their manifestos to us so that we can advise the Igbos appropriately.

“The parties have not yet nominated their candidates; so, it is premature for me to begin to ask them what they have.

“When the candidates emerge, I will seek audience with them. First of all, I’ll want whoever becomes the next president of Nigeria to sign an undertaking, if he is not an Igbo man, that he will not stay for more than one tenure and that the next president of Nigeria will come to Igbo thereafter.
