2019: Kano people are in my pocket - Buhari

- President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed confidence that he would receive majority of the votes of Kano residents in 2019

- According to the president, the people of Kano are ‘in his pocket’, if a free and fair election is held

- Buhari won nearly 90% of the votes in Kano in 2015, and is currently on a two-day visit to the northern state

President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that if free and fair elections are held in 2019, he is assured of receiving majority of the votes which would be cast by residents of Kano state, Vanguard reports.

Buhari made the comments on Wednesday, December 6, at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

In his words: “I know the elections. If they are to be free and fair, if it is a question of numbers, if it is a question of allowing people to make their choice, then I think the people of Kano are in my pocket.”

President Buhari won 90% of the vote in Kano state at the last presidential election, and went ahead to make history by defeating a sitting president.

Meanwhile, previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari said that no one could change the mind of Nigerians on the campaign promises he made.

The president, while on a two-day working visit to Kano, said his promise of tackling corruption, insurgency and growing the economy cannot be disputed especially in the level of success recorded.

He also vowed to de-congest prisons in the country.

Earlier, the president who arrived Kano to a tumultuous welcome by the government and people of the state at the start of a two-day state visit paid homage to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

At the Emir’s place, President Buhari recounted his fond memories of Kano, as a symbol of peace, trade, commerce and industry in Nigeria.
