North central governors endorse President Buhari for 2019

- North central governors called on President Buhari to contest in 2019

- The governors said he needed to complete the things he has started

- They said no politician could sustain the momentum of his progress

Political leaders and governors from the north central have unanimously agreed that President Muhammadu Buhari should run for presidency in 2019.

The Nation reports that the governors gave this resolution at the North Central meeting of the National Committee of Buhari Support Groups held in Abuja.

Prominent persons who made this call were Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa) and Senator George Akume.

The motion was moved by Akume and was seconded by Governor Lalong.

They vowed to compel President Buhari to contest insisting there was no one else that could sustain the growth being recorded.

Senator Akume listed successes recorded by the Buhari administration to include “the fight against terrorism, economic recovery, sustenance of democracy, restoration of the Nigeria’s reputation in the comity of nations and Buhari’s personal integrity and patriotism as justification for their call.”

The senator noted that the constitution was aware that four years was too short to make significant achievement which was why there was provision for a second term.

Boss Mustapha who is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation represented Buhari at the meeting.

He said: “When you elected us into office, you did so with the conviction that our dear nation needed to be put on a new pedestal for the dreams conceived by our founding fathers, dreams that we have adopted to be realized.

“The full weight of this responsibility informed our careful, slow and steady start to the governance of Nigeria in the last 30 months. We took a deliberate decision to take a closer look at the situation we found before setting out to implement our plans for the country’s recovery.

“We are convinced of the need to establish a firm foundation upon which a united, peaceful and prosperous nation can be built by, and for, this and succeeding generations of Nigerians. I remain very grateful to all Nigerians tor their patience and understanding as we go through the difficult steps necessary to achieve this objective.”

Meanwhile, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will follow due democratic process in selecting its presidential candidate for the 2019 elections.

The Punch reports that the APC leader spoke on Wednesday, November 22 shortly after his meeting with leaders of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, the Afenifere, at the residence of the leader of the organisation, Pa. Reuben Fasoranti in Akure, Ondo State.
