Politics is not about life and death - Obasanjo

- Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president, has spoken about Nigerian politics

- Obasanjo said the country politicians that fail to win elections should help winners succeed

- He, however, urged them to always assist one another in their various areas of work

Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president, on Saturday, November 18, declared that politics should not be treated as a matter of life and death.

The nation reports that Obasanjo made this known at the public presentation of a book titled: Stepping Forward with Uti J.D. Agba, written by Goddy Jedy Agba and Mathias Okoi-Uyouyo in Calabar, Cross River state.

The former president who was the special guest of honour at the event, said politicians who failed to win elections can help winners to succeed.

According to him, ''If you cannot be the chief servant you can be the assistant chief servant. This is because the chief servant cannot do it on his own. He has to work with others.”

On his part, Ben Ayade, the Cross River state governor, also urged politicians defeated during polls to support those in power.

Ayade maintained that the need for all to work together for the development of the people.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Senator Sha’aba Lafiagi representing Kwara North Senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate lost his country home in the state after it was torched by angry mob.

The incident occurred after soldiers in his convoy shot four people on the eve of the Local government elections in the state.
