The Nigerian police has arrested two herdsmen for killing one of their colleagues in Ogun state.
The herdsmen - Hassan Amodu and Abubakar Abdullah - were said to have kidnapped another herder, Taye Amodu, on October 23, at the Obada Oko area of Abeokuta.
They were also said to have carted away with eight cows belonging to their victim.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the police in Ogun state command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the commissioner of police has directed the officer in charge of the federal special anti-robbery squad, Uba Adam to apprehend the suspects.
Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested by the squad in their hideout at the Imeko area of the state.
He said they also confessed to committing the crimes because the victim struggled with them while they were taking him away.
“At about 5.30pm of the same day, their hideout was located in the Imeko area. The hideout, which is in a thick forest, was stormed by FSARS operatives and the two suspects were arrested. Recovered from them were one pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges and two cutlasses.
“On interrogation, they confessed to have killed the victim because he struggled with them while they were taking him away, adding that the body was buried in a shallow grave inside the forest. They equally confessed to have stolen his eight cows," Oyeyemi said.
The police spokesperson said the two suspects would be arraigned in court as soon the police concludes investigation on the matter.
