Ahead of 2019 election, Atiku's supporters defect to PDP

- The supporters of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

- The supporters explained that APC has failed to fulfill its promised change

- They, however, said 2019 is going to be a very wonderful year politically because Atiku will contest in the general elections

Atiku Support Group nationwide (ASG) has decamped from the ruling APC, to the PDP, months ahead of 2019 general elections.

New Telegraph reports that Mark Wosi, the director-general ASG, disclosed that APC does not focus.

According to him, "APC is not focused; they promised change and an all-inclusive government but what is being obtainable is different; as a group, we felt we are not being carried along."

Wosi also said the group has decided to go back to the PDP in order to "change the change. I am highly disappointed in the APC. I expected mature, coordinated politics from the ruling party, but I am disappointed.

"Buhari is telling people he is fighting corruption, while he is surrounded by the corruption he is claiming to fight. Nigerians are beginning to doubt his integrity, he should be serious at his age.

"It is very unfortunate that Nigeria’s hope has been dashed; if things continue like this, we are doomed."

On Atiku’s position on the decamping to PDP, Wosi said: "As a group, the ASG cannot speak for Atiku, but as his supporters, we are calling on him to come and contest on the platform of the PDP, a party which he was among the founding fathers.

"Politics is a game of numbers, the ASG is spread across the country with a large number of members and supporters. I believe our large number and sincerity of purpose can persuade Atiku to come back to the PDP."

He also noted that 2019 is going to be a very wonderful year politically because there is going to be a contest between two prominent northerners; Buhari and Atiku.

Wosi, however, suggested that with the southern part of the country supporting Atiku, the former vice president will lead with 65%.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Atiku lambasted some media organisations for reporting fake news about his 2019 presidential ambition.

There were reports circulating that the former vice president had declared his intention to run for the most exalted seat during the 2019 presidential election.

Atiku on his Twitter page, described the news as fake, which must be disregarded.
