APC allegedly planning to ask Buhari to sack Sagay for castigating party leadership

- Irked by the recent criticism it received from Professor Itse Sagay, the leadership of the APC is planning to report him to President Buhari

- A National Working Committee member says the party could also move for Sagay's sack

- The APC insists the professor had brought the party into disrepute

For allegedly running the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) down, Professor Itse Sagay, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), is to be reported to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Part of the plan of the party, it was learnt, is to seek the president to sack Sagay from the advisory committee for saying the leadership of the party behaves like rogue elephants.

Buhari returned to Nigeria on Monday, September 25 after four days in London where he had gone after participating at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly.

Daily Independent quotes a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party as saying they would inform Buhari officially about Sagay’s comment.

“It is imperative that the president is officially notified as the national leader of the party and the one who appointed Sagay to chair the advisory committee against corruption.

“The leadership of the APC has had enough of Prof Itse Sagay and will likely meet with the president to register its displeasure over the Prof’s unbridled utterances.

“We are aware that the president must have read about what took place during his absence on the pages of newspapers, but I believe the party leadership will soon meet him to formally notify him of Prof Sagay’s reckless comments not only against the party’s leadership, but also against the president himself, who is the party’s national leader.

“It is a different thing if Prof Sagay is making these reckless comments in his personal capacity as a Professor of Law, but speaking in his capacity as the chairman of Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, and using derogatory remarks against the leadership and the president himself, is totally unacceptable.

“He is not a member of the party, no doubt, but as an appointee of the president, many people are seeing his comments as an indication of lack of cohesion in the government,” the member of the NWC said.

The source added: “On a personal note, I believe the professor is bringing that position he is occupying to disrepute.

“Today, he attacks the National Assembly, tomorrow he attacks the leadership of APC. What has all this got to do with his chairing of PACAC?

“Must Prof Sagay comment on every issue? The APC will present its case to the president. It is now left for the president to determine what to do with him.”

A statement from Bolaji Abdullahi, the APC national publicity secretary, as earlier reported by Legit.ng, condemned the professor for attacking its leadership. The party claimed Sagay indicted President Buhari with his comment.

In his reply, Sagay said he held Buhari in high esteem but was referring to the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and spokesperson, Abdullahi.
