Akinwunmi Adesina set to commission new training facility for youth ‘agripreneurs’ in Oyo state
- The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in conjunction with the IITA are funding a brand new capacity development training facility for youth ‘agripreneurs’
- Dr. Kwesi Atta-Krah, chairman of the IITA50 Organizing Committee, disclosed all the units that would be contained within the facility
- The chairman stated that this is an opportunity to begin to look at the future of agriculture, and the IITA’s role as regards youth unemployment, climate change, and pests and diseases
A new capacity development training facility for youth ‘agripreneurs’ will be commissioned in Ibadan on Monday, July 24, by Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the president of the African Development Bank, Daily Trust reports.
The project will be inaugurated as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
It is also funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the IITA.

In a statement released on Sunday, July 23, Dr. Kwesi Atta-Krah, chairman of the IITA50 Organizing Committee, stressed the importance of youth engagement in agriculture.
Laying emphasis on the future, Attah-Krah stated that the celebration of the 50th year of IITA in Africa transcends past achievements.
The chairman also disclosed that the $700,000 facility contains 20 standard sized offices, two major training rooms that would conveniently sit 50 trainees each, and two large offices that can sit 30 interns each.
He stated in part: “It is also an opportunity for us to begin to look at the future of agriculture and the role IITA will be playing especially as it relates to emerging challenges of climate change, pests and diseases, and rising youth unemployment."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the African Development Bank (AfDB), headed by Akinwunmi Adesina, former agriculture minister, on Monday, September 26 2016, approved the sum of $1 billion as loan to the Nigerian government.
The loan provided at 1.2 percent interest rate, was approved in order to address the deficits in 2016 budget.
