- 188,580 residents from the 7 districts comprising Melaye’s constituency have signed the recall petition
- The total number have thus managed to exceed the 51.1 per cent constitutionally required
- A source within the Kogi state government disclosed that all what is left is for INEC to take the necessary action
The petition to recall Senator Dino Melaye will be received by the the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday June 21.
According to reports, a source within the Kogi state government confirmed the development on the condition of anonymity.

According to the source, all that needs to be done has been completed and “it is left to INEC to take the next course of action.”
Legit.ng gathered that by Monday, June 19, a total of 188,580 electorates from Kogi West had signed the recall for Senator Melaye.
Adamu Yusuf, the returning officer for the recall of the serving senator announced the figure at the All Progressives Congress (APC) state secretariat in Lokoja.
He explained that out of 360,098 of the total registered voters of the seven western senatorial districts comprising Yagba, Mopa Muro, Kabba Bunu, Yagba East, Koton Karfe, Lokoja and Ijumu, 188,588 signed the recall register, constituting 52.3% of the voters within the senatorial district.
Yusuf further stated: “Going by the above figures, it is important to let Nigerians know that we have met the Constitutional requirements of 51.1%.
“Dino has failed to represent Kogi West, so we are calling him back home.”

Legit.ng previously reported that despite calls from senator Dino Melaye’s supporters in his Kabba/Bunnu constituency on Sunday, June 10 to resist moves to recall the lawmaker, the recall process had gained more momentum in the senator’s own constituency.
